Outlook: Setting how web links are opened

Overview

As part of the June 2023 Microsoft Outlook micro-updates, Microsoft has set the default browser for web links to open in Microsoft Edge, regardless of any previous default browser settings you may have had. To change this behavior back to the previous method (i.e. open links in your default browser), please follow the steps below.

 

Guide

  1. Open Outlook
     
  2. Click on "File" in the upper left hand corner of the applicationUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  3. In the lower left corner of the "File" screen, select "Options"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  4. An "Outlook Options" window will pop up. First select "Advanced" on the left side tabs.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  5. Under "Advanced" you will see a section labeled "Link Handling". Within that section, locate the option "Open Hyperlinks from Outlook In:"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Change the setting on "Open Hyperlinks from Outlook In:" to the "Default Browser" option.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  7. Click "OK" to save and close out of the "Outlook Options" window. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  8. The next time you click on a link, it will open in your default system browser
